Capture the flag

Have you ever heard of or played the game capture the flag? It’s basically a game you play on a big space with two teams. Every team has a flag and they have to steal the flag of the others. When we were in Moorlandhall, one evening Jo announced we would go play Capture the flag on the moor. Like always, we had time to change so we would be dressed appropriately for the activities. We already knew there was a lot of mud on the moor so we put on rain trousers and coats (as always). On the field there were also a lot of spikey bushes with yellow flowers and they where very dangerous apparently. At the end it was 1:1 but Jo didn’t let us play another round, so it stayed like that - still, the two rounds were exciting and pretty fun. To sum up I liked to play Capture the flag with the class, but I wished we could have played another round (just to have a winner)! See you soon, Vicky

Crate stacking and Leap of faith

Hey Guys, Today we had not only kayaking, but also very thrilling activities called leap of faith and crate stacking. Really cool! Leap of faith After we had finished lunch, we began to pair up for crate stacking. But we all had to wait some time so the ones that weren't crate stacking took the leap of faith, which is basically just jumping into the great nothingness and getting saved by the rope around our waists. Cool experience, but a onetime thing. Although many of us went for a second or even third or fourth round. Crate stacking Crate stacking is called “Bierkistenstapeln” in Austria and we “joked” that it is very important to us, so many were competitive. Here is the official top three leaderboard: 1 Bene und David 18 2 Noah und Luis 17 3 Maxi und Benni 16 3 Matthi und Paul 16 As you see, the top three were close together and Bene and David even reached (but not broke) the all-time record at the Moorland Hall Crate stacking Competition. This day was cool, anytime again 😉 B...

Accommodation

H ey guys ! A few hours ago we arrived at Moorland Hall  and we have just settled in.  It’s divided into three houses and a big garden , with a football field, a swimming pool  and  a small climbing park.  The girls stayed in the mainhouse and the boys in the coachhouse.  Our rooms were all  arranged very co sy  and clean.  The girls had the  luxury of an own bathroom per room, but the boys had to share one.   In our free time we could meet in t h e  living room , which contain ed many games we could play.  We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining room and it was organized like a  buffet.  All in all we felt really  comfortably  and  homely !

Mayflower Starting point

Hi guys, Benjamin here. I want to tell you about a very important place in Plymouth. It’s the starting point of the “Mayflower“ in the city‘s harbour. But let me tell you a bit about the ship: Looking for a place to practice their radical Christianity, about 100 English Puritans (an English christian movement) set off for America on the Mayflower on September 16, 1620. These Pilgrim Fathers unwittingly laid the foundation for the creation of the United States. It was really unbelieveable to stand there, knowing that the formation of such an important country began right there. All in all our trip to Plymouth was very cool and exciting. Bye

Team challenges

We have learned many important lessons, all through team-challenges. Two, to be exact, one was finding a golf ball, which was hidden in the ground, somewhere on the giant field of Moorland Hall. We were split into two groups, my group was Brainstorming ideas with Becca and Erin, on how to get the golf ball as fast as possible. We had some pretty good strategies, like searching in lines, searching In separate sectors, rolling on the ground, walking a spiral, etc. Becca even got the Idea to bribe Jo to show where our ball was.  At the end, we rated each Individual strategy from 1 to 10 out of ten, walking in lines was our winner, we had this plan: Every one of our group stood next to each other, then one of us shouted the amount of steps we should take forward. We were the first group to find the golf ball first. On our second coastal walk, we came across a lovely beach at a little town located on the north coast of Cornwall....

High Ropes and Archery

High ropes and archery On the 18th of April 2024 our group (A) had high ropes and archery in the morning and the other group in the afternoon. It was really funny and interesting, but also something new for us. Have you ever done high ropes or archery before? If not, you should try both and more sports at Moorland Hall. The girls of our group went for archery first and the boys were doing high ropes first. At the beginning Becca and Meg, who were very nice to us, told us the basics like how to hold a bow and how to pull out an arow. Then we had some practice time and afterwards we played some games like bake a cake or sticky sheep. Sadly, we had to change with the boys and go to high ropes. We had never done something like this before. And you? Firstly, we did some practice on the grass, but then we went up about five meters over the floor. It was scary, but cool too. All in all, it was a new, but great experience. You should have tried it at least once in your lifetime. We would recom...

Free time activities

FREE TIME Everyday, mostly before lunch or after dinner we had some freetime to do whatever we wanted to on the grounds of Moorlandhall. When the weather was nice outside, which it luckily was almost everyday, we went on to the big field outside and played football, often till after nine in the evening. Sometimes our whole class was playing, sometimes we were only about half the class, but regardless it was very, very fun.   Some of the time we were in the community room either playing „Stadt Land Vollpfosten“ or we were trying to build a 1000 piece puzzle while also talking about different topics. Some of us even played some songs on the piano and teached others to. When we were outside sometimes we also played volleyball. When the stars were shining beautifully outside we talked into the night. We really enjoyed having some free of any  by ourselves. Bye, Alina & Alexandra :)

New words and phrases

Hello guys! During our trip to Moorland Hall we spoke a lot of English and learned a lot as well and I think everyone’s pronunciation improved quite a lot. The English teacher Chris also told us a bit about the Devonian accent. tor - Tors are really old rock formations. (a keltic word) quay - quays are streets along a coast. “Shire” at the end of a city’s name ist spoken like “sha” or “shir”. dreckly - soon gurt- great (big) “Alrite me luvver” - alright mate, hello love Tom teddy - tadpole dimpsy - the damp light in the morning or evening  David Auffarth

Tavistock

H ello   party people, Sadly our journey‘ll end tomorrow, but today we  used the  remaining time to visit a nice  little village  called Tavistock. It is  the nearest town to Moorland Hall  – only a 10min drive. There we could roam around  the place  for about an hour and a half .  The shops and stores in  Tavistock  looked very english and I think we can all agree the most popular one was the  bookstore.  Aside from that there was a  indoor and outdoor market.  We all had a good time and some of us bought also fish and chips!

Kayak

Hey Guys. How are you doing?  We are finally back from our england trip.We had a lot of fun there and did a lot of sports like football, volleyball, hiking…We also did kayaking, the sport I will write about today. We started the day with  breakfast. After that group b went kayaking and on the afternoon group a.At first Jo told us how to use everything. Then we went into the water and started to get used to it.Later we paddled out a bit and player a Home with tennisball there. Then we paddled back and went in the car.It was very fun and I would love to do it again. See you next time. Benedikt Huber

English

We had 3 English classes that all lasted for three hours, but at least we had a break for 20 minutes.   At the first time, we mainly learned more about Moorland Hall and also other parts of England. After the break, we then learned more about diary writing in English. It was a little boring but fine. In the break, most of us played Volleyball together. That was quite fun. Second time, we learned about English idioms and also told our teacher Chris some german ones. I liked that pretty much. After that, we finished our diaries of the day. After the break, we started doing projects about stuff like the Eden Project, Ancient Dartmoor etc.  The third time of English, we learned about different British accents (there are LOTS of them), and after the break just finished our projects. Overall, it wasn‘t my favourite part of Moorland Hall but it was great for relaxing a bit from all the activities. Julia Toifl

Fish and Chips in Plymouth

Hello guys, today in the evening we went to a restaurant in Plymouth and ate fish and chips there.  We were driving there with the ferry and then went to the restaurant „The Ship“. It‘s interior was very cool because there were pictures and models of sailing boats everywhere and the mobiliar was old and astetic. After a short time we got our fish and chips and it was delicious. They were crispy on the outside and the fish was very soft. The chips were also very good. During the eating we watched cricket. We were all a bit confused because we didn‘t know how it was played. But the evening was very funny and the food delicious. I highly recommend this place and hope you liked this blog. Bye and until the next time                                                                  Noah and Luis

Eden Project

Today we were at the Eden Project. The Eden Project is a Botanic Garden in Cornwall. It opened for the first time in March 2001 and since then many people visit it everyday and today we were some of them. The Eden Project has 6 big domes where they changed the temperature and the climate so that exotic plants could live there. It was really impressing that exotic plants could really live there. The air was really humid.   We made a Workshop there and also learned about the climate change and how it is affecting the plants. Before that though, we got some worksheets to do in the rain forest. We hat to look for plants with the adaptations asked, which were for example thorns, draw them and then explain what the adaptations are good for. Then we had some time to just walk around by ourselves to have a look at everything. María Holzer Sánchez

Journey home

H ey guys! Today we started our Journey back home! We drove 5h with the bus to Heathrow and stopped at Stone Henge. We weren‘t really there but had a glimspe of the Stones from the highway. Even though our flight was cancelled we were rebooked to an even earlier flight to Frankfurt. Some of us had dinner in Frankfurt, while we waited and there was even a surprising Family Reeunion.  We landed in Salzburg at 11. pm, where our parents were waiting for us. Even though the journey was long, we had a lot of fun!

13th of April-RNLI

H ey Guys! Today we went to a organisation called RNLI (Royal national lifeboat institution), in Looe. They showed us their rescue suits and their rescue boats. We were really surprised that the RNLI  members work voluntarily. It was a very interesting workshop and we are very thankful that there are people, that save many lifes every day.

Day 4 - Padstow

Beach & Ferry On the 15th of April 2024 we drove for about 1 hour to a beach, where we had lunch. The wind was blowing really hard, but we enjoyed spending time together in nature. We were fascinated by the ebb and loved the colours of the sea. After our walk, we arrived at another coast, where a ferry took us to our next stop: Padstow .                          Coastal town  In Padstow, some of us caught crabs, then we explored the town and went shopping in tiny cute shops. There, we got stuff like bracelets, books, cups and soaps, to remember our beautiful time. It was a lot of fun and definitely a highlight of our journey.
